Early treatment of a narrow palate and an impacted tooth

This young 8 year old patient had an impacted tooth front tooth and a posterior skeletal crossbite due to a narrow upper jaw and palate. He was treated early with rapid palatal expander and partial braces. Treatment time was 9 months. We then monitor this patient’s growth until his teenage years when full braces may be performed to correct any residual crowding.

The before and after change of his upper jaw demonstrates the corrections achieved. The palate was successfully expanded to correct his cross bite. This also enabled space for his impacted front tooth to be brought into the dental arch. A bonded retainer was placed to maintain his corrections.
