What are clear ceramic braces?
Clear ceramic braces are aesthetic alternatives to conventional metallic braces. When comparing clear vs metal braces, the biggest difference lies in their appearance. Ceramic brackets are tooth-coloured or clear in appearance, providing treatment that is much less visible than their metallic counterparts. Why choose ceramic braces?
Subtle appearance
Feel completely confident throughout your treatment with clear bracket braces that have a subtle appearance.
Increased comfort
With smaller, more rounded brackets and ceramic materials, clear braces are less likely to cause pain or discomfort.
Faster results
Unlike Invisalign, ceramic braces are designed to be worn 24/7 – meaning your treatment is working effectively 100% of the time.
How does it work?
As a clear alternative to braces, ceramics are placed on your teeth in the same way metallic braces are. Because ceramic is brittle by nature, patients need to be more careful to ensure fractures don’t occur.
Clear braces are typically placed on the visible (front) teeth whilst some metallic brackets may be placed on the teeth at the back to minimise your breakage risks.
During your clear braces treatment, it is important to avoid foods which can stain the ceramic such as excessive curries, teas and coffees. Regular cleans with a dental hygienist can ensure your braces look clear and your teeth and gums remain healthy.
Who are ceramic braces suitable for?
Clear braces are fantastic for teenagers and adults in particular. While children can be treated with this method, the increased risk of breaking makes them better suited to patients of an older age, who understand the importance of taking care when eating and drinking. Your orthodontist will discuss individual suitability with you at your initial consultation appointment.
